Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE)

Conditions for Sitting for ACSEE

  • Candidates will be eligible to enter for Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination if they possess passes in atleast (3) subjects at grades A, B, or C in the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or its equivalent.


  • A school candidate must enter and sit for the subjects for which he/she was prepared including Civics which shall be a subsidiary subject


  • A private candidate must enter and sit for at least two subjects including Civics which shall be a subsidiary subject.


  • A candidate will not be permitted to sit for Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination until at least two years have elapsed after she/he has obtained a Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent


Examinable Subjects for Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE):

Examination Results and Conditions for the Award of Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE):

  • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination results are indicated by letter grades as follows:

    • A indicates Excellent

    • B indicates Very Good

    • C indicates Good

    • D indicates Satisfactory

    • E indicates Satisfactory

    • S indicates Subsidiary Pass

    • F indicates Fail


  • NOTE:
    • Grades: A, B, C, D and E are Principal Passes while grades S is Subsidiary and F is Fail

  • Subsidiary subjects are graded at either Subsidiary Pass(S) or Fail (F) only.


  • NECTA Criteria of Awarding Divisions for School Candidates:
    A candidate who sits for CSEE examination is awarded divisions I, II, III, IV or 0 depending on meeting the following conditions:


    • DIVISION ONE (I):
      To qualify for divion one certificate, a candidate must:

      • Obtain VERY GOOD or GOOD in attitude to work and character assessment

      • Pass Civics

      • Obtain not more than 9 points THREE subjects taken at Principal Level




    • DIVISION TWO (II):
      To qualify for a division two certificates, a candidate must:

      • Obtain VERY GOOD or GOOD in attitude to work and character assessment

      • Pass Civics

      • Obtain not less than TWO principal pass for subjects taken at principal level

      • Obtain not more than 12 points THREE subjects taken at principal level




    • DIVISION THREE (III):
      To qualify for a division three certificates, a candidate must:

      • Obtain VERY GOOD or GOOD in attitude to work and character assessment

      • Pass Civics

      • EITHER pass two principal subjects OR pass one principal subject with a grade not below C

      • Obtain not more than 17 points THREE subjects taken at principal level



    • DIVISION FOUR (IV):
      To qualify for a division four certificates, a candidate must:

      • Obtain VERY GOOD or GOOD in attitude to work and character assessment

      • Pass Civics

      • EITHER obtain at least one principal pass OR obtain at least two subsidiary passes in subjects taken at principal level



    • ZERO:
      Does not fulfil the conditions for awards of the above Divisions (DIV 1-IV).


  • NECTA Criteria of Awarding Divisions for School Candidates:
    Condition for the award of Advanced Certificates of Secondary Education to private candidates will be the same as those of school candidates above provided that attitude to work and charcter assessment will not apply to private candidates.
